SEMPAD SHAHNAZARIAN

  Brownsville, Texas

  Sempad Shahnazarian, 96, passed away September 22, 1985, in Brownsville, Texas. He was born in Khas Kiugh, Moush, Turkey.

  His early education was received  at Sourp Garabed Monastery in Moush and he graduated from Ketronagan Varjaran in Constantinople.

  During World War I, he was awarded the “Médaille Militaire” and “Croix de Guerre” by the French government.

  After immigrating to the United States in 1920, he received his Bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University. He relocated to the Midwest with his family, where he formed an Armenian school in Granite City, Illinois. He wrote many literary articles and poems. He was a teacher, lecturer and author of several manuscripts.

  He is survived by a son, Arsen Shahnazarian of Fairfield, California; daughters, Arsinee Malconian of West Los Angeles, California, Arminee Shishmanian of Fresno, California, ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

  Memorial donations may be sent to the Armenian Community School of Fresno.
