Introduction
he
“Arts” are the fingerprints of a nation, left behind throughout the ages
for others to examine, admire and learn. It’s a window through which the
sole of a nation is portrayed. It’s a reflection of its culture during
triumph, defeat, joy and sorrow.
The Arts of Armenia have been dated
back centuries before Christ. It has survived religious and political turbulence,
unrest and persecution throughout the existence of this proud and culturally
advanced nation.
This chapter introduces the reader
to Armenia’s artistic and cultural riches, her exquisite architecture and
delicately carved Khachkars (sculpture), her precious metalwork in gold,
silver and bronze, her fine lace needlework and highly appraised carpets,
her music and dance and much more.
Pictures and illustrations are provided,
as visual aids to assist the reader to better understand their subject.
