| John
Semerdjian (Biography of the artist)
John was born in 1967 in
Jerusalem. There he attended the St. Tarkmanchats Armenian secondary school.
Even at a young age John displayed artistic flair. He loved to experiment
with colours and had an interest in drawing well known Armenian figures
and landmarks, such as Mount Ararat.
Following his high school
graduation in 1985, John spent the next year living in Armenia as a student.
He attended art classes at the Yerevan State University to further improve
his drawing skills. In his free time John was able to indulge in another
one of his interests, photography. He took pictures whilst visiting old
Armenian churches and other historical places of interest. These visits
enabled him to study the form and beauty of the relief carvings of flowers,
motifs, human and animal figures that adorn the walls of these ancient
sights.
On his return to Jerusalem
in 1986 John spent the next four to five years working as a freelance artist.
Through self-teaching and involvement in various design projects during
this time, John continued to improve his artistic skills. His passion for
design was well and truly fuelled by this stage.
John immigrated to Sydney,
Australia at the end of December 1991. Realising the need for some formal
arts training, he undertook an intensive, two-year graphic design course
at the Northern Sydney Institute of TAFE. On completion of his course in
1994, John attained an ‘Associate Diploma in Arts’ certificate. During
his studies John also entered various design competitions and as a result
has won numerous awards. After graduating John worked for several design
studios as a graphic designer. At the same time he attended courses in
multimedia and computer programming, in order to further develop his design
skills.
In 1999 John started up his
own graphic design business called ‘SSS Graphics’. It has since been operating
successfully and continues to grow. As a direct result of John’s commitment
to creative design and quality work, he has attained both the trust and
respect of his clientele.
In the year following the
establishment of 'SSS Graphics', John undertook yet another creative project. The
idea of an Armenian web-site that was both factual and visual appealed
to him. As a result the 'HyeEtch' web-site became a dream realised.
The 'Hye Etch' web-site is
the first and most comprehensive Armenian site, based in Australia. |
